Getting around Greater Miami & Miami Beach without a car is easy if you ride the trolley. In fact, riding the trolley is fun – and it’s free. The local network consists of air-conditioned buses designed to look like old-fashioned trolleys, similar to the ones that served Miami early in the 20th century.

The popular trolleys allow people to hop on and off wherever there’s a stop. Each trolley is equipped with a wheelchair lift and a rack for two bicycles.

Here's how to get around using the trolley systems that serve Miami Beach, the City of Miami, Coral Gables and the cities of Doral and Miami Gardens.

Miami Beach Trolley

The Miami Beach trolley runs from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week, with service about every 20 minutes. An app tracks the trolleys in real time, which can help you plan your trip. Travelers have four routes to choose from: three separate loops, which serve each section of Miami Beach – South Beach, Mid Beach, and North Beach – plus one route, called the Collins Express, that connects them all.

Where Does the Miami Beach Trolley Go?

The South Beach trolley loop stretches from the South of Fifth (SoFi) neighborhood at the southern tip of the island north to 23rd Street.

The Middle Beach trolley loop operates along Dade Boulevard and Collins Avenue, running north to 41st Street.

The North Beach trolley loop makes stops from 65th Street north to Normandy Isle and up to the northern end of the island.

The Collins Express trolley route connects the three loops. Since it runs 5.5 miles along Collins Avenue from 17th Street and Lincoln Road north to 88th Street, it overlaps at least part of the three loops, making it possible to travel the length of the city, hopping on and off to explore all along the way.

City of Miami Trolleys

The City of Miami’s free, air-conditioned trolley service runs on most of its 13 routes from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Saturday, with reduced or no service on some routes on Sundays. Sunday service is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the Allapattah, Biscayne, Brickell, Coral Way, Little Haiti and Little Havana routes. Popular routes for visitors include the loops around Coconut Grove, Downtown Miami/Brickell, Wynwood and the Miami Design District.

Coral Gables Trolleys

The Coral Gables trolley service runs every 12-15 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday. It serves two routes in Coral Gables: Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Grand Avenue. The first runs north and south on Ponce de Leon Boulevard from Douglas Metrorail Station to Flagler Street. The Grand Avenue route runs north and south from Douglas Metrorail Station through the historic McFarlane Homestead District. You can track trolleys in real-time with the trolley location map.

Doral Trolley in Downtown Doral — Doral Trolley

City of Doral Trolleys

If you are visiting Doral or staying near Miami International Airport, you'll want to check out the City of Doral Trolley, which offers service on four routes that will get you where you want to go around the area. The free trolley trolley connects to the Metrorail, which serves many other parts of Miami. The City of Doral trolley runs on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. depending on the route, with a modified schedule on weekends. The schedule for the City of Doral trolley depends on which of its four routes you use.

Where and When the Doral Trolleys Run

Route 1, the Crosstown Connector, runs weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Route 2, a Commercial Route and Metrorail Connector, runs weekdays from 6:10 a.m. to 9:20 p.m., Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and does not run on Sundays.

Route 3, a Residential Route and Metrorail Connector, runs weekdays from 5:50 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 6:50 a.m. to 7 p.m. It does not run on Sundays.

Route 4, a Florida International University Connector, runs from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays only.

Miami Gardens Trolley

The City of Miami Gardens offers three trolley routes with stops at Hard Rock Stadium, St. Thomas University and Miami Gardens City Hall, among others. Although the routes overlap, especially in the center of the city, Route A generally serves the eastern part of the city, Route B the western area and Route C the northern part. The Miami Gardens trolleys run daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
