Daphnis and Chloe
Mar 07, 2026
Starting: 8:00 PM
A richly textured evening of orchestral color and vocal expression awaits as two acclaimed artists unite for a program centered on love, poetry and myth.
On Saturday, March 7, 2026, Daphnis and Chloe is presented at the New World Center on Miami Beach, as part of the New World Symphony’s 2025–2026 season. Conducted by Artistic Director Stéphane Denève, the concert features Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Kelley O’Connor in Neruda Songs by American composer Peter Lieberson. This five-part song cycle sets the sensual poetry of Pablo Neruda to music and has become a signature work for O’Connor, who is widely recognized as one of its most powerful interpreters.
The second half of the program is dedicated to Maurice Ravel’s complete ballet Daphnis and Chloé, a sweeping and impressionistic score that blends narrative storytelling with vibrant orchestral writing. Often considered one of Ravel’s finest works, the ballet evokes pastoral romance, mythological imagery and lush harmonic detail.
This performance offers audiences an opportunity to experience two emotionally resonant works led by one of the most internationally sought-after conductors of French repertoire. Denève, known for his work with leading orchestras across Europe and North America, brings a distinctive blend of precision and lyricism to this program pairing vocal intimacy with symphonic grandeur.
Individual tickets go on sale beginning July 25, 2025.
